Quality Machine & Fabrication: A History and a Future of Success.
Founded to support big mining and milling operations in South Central Missouri, the company began in 1987 as Quality Machine Works. As the operation grew and expanded over time, the original owner used his knowledge of the mining industry and his design talents to develop a superior product for mine scaling. Today, QMF’s patented technology to improve the performance and durability of mine scaling booms is operating in equipment throughout the United States and internationally, and it remains in high demand.
Having successfully grown the company and carved out its niche serving area mining and milling operations, the company was sold to Steve and Angelina Conway in 2013, when it became Quality Machine and Fabrication. Steve knew the industry well, having spent decades in welding and fabrication with the Doe Run Company, including over 8 years as a General Foreman in the company’s Research and Technical Development Operations division. He and Angelina invested in the company’s future, acquiring new equipment and capabilities that helped them expand their customer base to serve more of heavy industry.
In the first years under Steve’s leadership, Quality Machine and Fabrication doubled in annual sales and increased the plant size by almost 70%. We now operate in over 22,500 square feet of shop space, which is filled with an incredible variety of top quality machining and fabrication equipment that allows us to handle almost any project in house. The facility has virtually everything it needs to manufacture anything from large, oversized heavy industrial products, to precision parts and components, and we continue to expand our capabilities to meet and exceed customer needs. The QMF shop includes precision CNC-controlled machining, milling and cutting equipment, in addition to lathes, water jet and plasma cutters, boring mills, plate rollers, brake presses and much more. It’s an impressive shop, with impressive capabilities.
With all the tools and equipment to make Quality Machine and Fabrication the valued supplier that it is today, Steve knows it takes more to be the best. “Our greatest asset is our people,” he says. “These folks in the shop are the best. They have years of experience and continuously prove they have the skills to do things other shops can’t, and I can’t tell you how many overtime hours they’ll put in to make sure we hit a customer’s incredibly tight deadline. And the finished product is always on spec. Yes, we have the tools and equipment to do it all in house, but without these great people, we wouldn’t be where we are today.”
QMF consistently earns its reputation as a top-quality machining and fabrication shop, and the knowledge, drive and business savvy of the company leadership team, combined with the dedicated skills and talent of our machinists and fabricators, bode well for our continued growth into the future.
